🌿Somatic Healing🌿

There was a point in my life where I just felt… off.

Not in a way I could fully explain, but I could feel it in my body.

Emotionally, spiritually, I knew I was holding onto things...

I just didn’t know how to release them.

I realised that healing isn’t always something we can just think our way through. I had tried that, overthinking, analysing, trying to 'figure it out' but my body still felt tense and unsettled.

I got to a point where I realised I couldn't think my way out of how I was feeling anymore.

That's when I found somatic work and things started to shift.

Sometimes, the body holds onto things the mind has already tried to process. Tension, stress, emotions we don't always have the words for.

🌿 What are somatic exercises?🌿

Somatic exercises are a really gentle way of reconnecting with your body.

They’re not about pushing yourself or getting a workout in.

They’re about slowing down enough to actually feel what’s going on underneath it all.

Slow, intentional movement.

It’s not about doing it perfectly, it's about becoming aware.

It’s less about doing and more about feeling. About coming back into your body, rather than living in your head.

Rather than pushing the body, somatic exercise invites you to: Notice sensations, Release stored tension, Regulate your nervous system.

Over time, this can help the body gently release built up stress and emotions it hasn't had the chance to process.

It's often used to support: Stress and anxiety, Physical tension and pain, Emotional healing, Nervous system balance.

The focus isn’t on 'doing it right' it’s on feeling and reconnecting with self.

It is not about fixing yourself, its about learning how to feel safe in your body again.

This 30-day course by Liz Tenuto (The Workout Witch) was actually the first thing that helped me feel a shift in my body.

Not in a forced way, but through just 10-15 minutes a day, I started noticing my body soften. The constant underlying tension and anxiety eased and I felt a sense of calm I hadn't felt in a long time.

🌿 Why your body holds the receipts🌿

This is the part that really changed things for me...

Your body remembers! Even when your mind tries to move on… the body keeps the score.

Your nervous system is always paying attention and when something feels too overwhelming at the time - stress, heartbreak, fear, moments where you didn’t feel safe, it doesn’t just disappear - It gets stored.

Your body holds onto what it didn’t get the chance to process, so you carry it… sometimes without even realising.

🌿 Coming home to the body🌿

For me, somatic work felt like an invitation.

Not to fix myself.

Not to rush healing.

But to gently come back home to my body.

To listen instead of ignore.

To soften instead of push.

There’s something really powerful about that, just allowing your body to speak in a way it maybe hasn’t been able to before.

Sometimes that can look like - A deep exhale you didn’t even realise you were holding, Emotion coming up out of nowhere, Your body wanting to move, stretch, or release.

And instead of questioning it… you just let it happen.

🌿 My experience🌿

I’m still on this journey.

I actually found somatic exercises at a time where I felt like I needed guidance.

Like I was holding onto things that I didn’t know how to process anymore, emotionally, spiritually and physically, I was holding onto trauma from my past.

And what I love about this work is that it doesn’t force anything out of you.

It meets you where you are.

This is something I've come back to again recently and it's reminded me how powerful this work really is.

🌿 If you’re feeling the same🌿

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, tense in your body or like you’re carrying something you can’t quite explain…

I feel you and I understand that feeling more than I can put into words.

This is exactly why I started exploring somatic work, as it felt like a really gentle place to start.

If your body feels like it’s constantly holding onto tension or anxiety, and you’re ready to feel a sense of safety within yourself again…

You can explore the course I personally used and still come back to here, if you feel called to it.

A small step back to yourself… and maybe the beginning of finally feeling at home in your body again.

With Love, Azaria 🕊️
